Although nature can surprise us with its unpredictable temperament, at GeN Distillery we remain focused on everything within our control. FROM WINTER DORMANCY TO BLOOM AND FRUIT FORMATION
Spring is just beginning on the calendar, but due to low precipitation and mild winter temperatures, the vegetation awakened early this season, causing early fruit varieties to blossom about ten days ahead of schedule.
When the orchard blooms, nature announces the start of a new rakija production season. This vegetative phase is key to fruit formation. For optimal and high-quality yields, 10–20% of the blossoms need to be successfully pollinated and fertilized. By applying modern agricultural practices, we support consistent yields and fruit quality, but nature’s favor still plays a vital role.
PLUMS FROM OUR OWN ORCHARD FOR GEΝ RAKIJA
Our plum orchards, primarily of the Čačanska Lepotica variety, cover more than 15 hectares at an altitude of 230 meters. The local wind rose—an atmospheric phenomenon specific to this area—favors air circulation and fruit health. This excellent microclimate, a gift of nature, obliges us to preserve and enhance the orchards through regular care and maintenance.
Once nature has done its part, the process moves from orchard to distillery, where we continue with our upgraded traditional rakija production methods. Only the best fruit is used—completely natural and with no additives.
In the coming weeks, pear and then quince blossoms will once again make our orchards the epicenter of beauty. Regardless of the season—dormant or vegetative—we are reminded at every step that nature gives us more than we take from it.
